Past life regression is something that has emerged along a number of paths of investigation and study. It is not a phenomenon that is limited to a particular geographic area, nor a specific class of individuals. It is a phenomenon that some individuals support and some do not. There are some interesting distinctions within seemingly congruent multiple life schools of thought.

While there are some rather ancient religions that believe life is reincarnate again and again, a number of these religions do not support or adhere to the idea of past life regression. This is an interesting distinction. Conversely individuals that validate past life regression are compelled to believe in reincarnation, since past life regression is the discovery of reincarnation stories by definition.

In general past life regression is experienced while in hypnosis therapy. There are some other states that have been known to coincide with past life regression. Not every hypnotherapist is inclined to validate the experiences, but among those that do, some specialize in the area.

There are a number of groups that are committed to the sharing of what they have found regarding these subjects. Among them is The Newton Institute (www.newtoninstitute.org). This particular institute provides training for individuals. They offer numerous books on these subjects, including Journey of Souls written by Michael Newton, PhD. The topic of the book is the time between incarnations, as described by some of Newton's patients. The Institute also connects people with trained therapists.

Newton is recognized as an expert on the subject at the Institute that shares his name. In his books he develops a detailed outline of reality as past life regression studies have revealed it to be. Some of the information is rather in keeping with some of the descriptions that religions have passed down through time. There is also a certain measure of difference. In addition there are some hints at a reality that has little conflict with the knowledge that the science's have accumulated.

There are a number of explanations of PLR experiences that have been put forth by other studies and individuals. Some even cite the hypnotic state as being part of the cause. This is, of course, a sometimes difficult distinction. When two things commonly occur together it may not be obvious whether one causes the other, or facilitates the other. Those that state PLR is a genuine revealing of repressed memories maintain that the relationship is a facilitative and not a causal one.

There is an already large body of data available regarding the subjects of hypnosis and past lives. The body of data continues to grow as interest continues. Free information can be found online. In some cases you may be able to speak with individuals educated on the subject as well.

Hypnotic states are considered risky by some individuals. You should be familiar with any risks to yourself before deciding to begin participating in any form of hypnotherapy. If you have specific medical problems it is recommended that you consult your doctor to determine what special considerations may be necessary in your case.
